One SOS call from a local tribal hospital around which we work, triggered us on spree to help people get Oxygen Concentrators. Life has never been the same after Corona and the second wave was deadlier than the first with the desperate need for O2 Concentrators. We have been helping hospitals with O2 concentrators especially those in the rural areas, the tier 2 towns of the Coimbatore and surrounding districts. We have been able to help the Hospitals in Anaikatty, Kottathurai, the GH in palani and the GH overflow are in Tirupur with O2 concentrators.
The people in the Palani Government Hospital have had to wait outside for Oxygen beds. This patient right here would have had to wait if we hadn’t give the O2 concentrators. This hospital doesn’t have an oxygen plant and so lives with the O2 cylinders and concentrators. A doctor at this hospital had been in touch with our trust to request for the concentrators. He said, “There is minimal medical resources during this time they have the use wisely. If there is not enough oxygen beds, and if the current patients who are doing better have to discharged keeping in mind the ones who are in critical condition waiting for beds outside, the recovery of the existing patients will not be smooth or complete if they are not connected to oxygen concentrators. So we do not have the satisfaction of treating the patients well”.
There has been continuous requests for O2 beds in the whatsapp groups, an average of 4 to 6 each day in the circles that we know. A volunteer team at Tirpur headed by Mr.Nanda Kumar of NGO called dream 20, have been arranging beds as an overflow of the Government hospital in Tirpur, which was visited by the Chief Minister Mr. Stalin last week. Oxygen concentrator has been given to support them in this endeavour to sustain the Covid patients.
