Anaikatty Rural Community College (ARCC)
ARCC (Anaikatty Rural Community College) is one of the projects of Dreamz which is launched in 2012 in the hilly area between the borders of Kerala and Tamil Nadu states to provide skill education to drop outs and house wives, the young adults between 18 to 40 years especially these of the Irulas tribe. Rural people also take part in our program.
How it all started...
The Dreamz team was formerly working as a registerd society under the banner of Creation Service Association managing about 400 self-help groups helping them achieve their vision.
The tribal people, the Irulas, sold their ancient land for small money, so they could connect with the city people in terms of dressing, eating, styling and the culture that they so much introject through the television. The government provides them ration and monthly provisions and gives them a lot of previledges, which makes life very easy for them.
The younger generation, who are too lazy to work in the field as labourers or feel too inferior to work in the office, loiter around. Due to no proper employment and distracted by illegal activities, we decided to offer these young adults a choice and an opportunity to dream, and make their dreams come true by setting up Anaikatty Rural Community College.
Also reach out to the young women who are married and are house wives. Most of the men in their community do not work, so the women take the burden of learning a skill, earn and take care of their families.
This team was instrumental in starting the center in Vadakkalore in Anaikatty the year 2012. We dug fresh ground there. Nathan, a student intern from Belgium was reaching out to the drop outs there.
